San Diego Report pt. 1

Starting out

I had poison ivy all over my face and it was starting to show up on my arms. But we were going to San Diego, California on all expense paid trip to the San Diego Comic Con International so I just made sure I didn’t scratch anything and we were sure to have a good time. We had a driver come pick us up promptly at 11 am on Wednesday morning, and he made the hour long trip to the airport in half the time (he has been a driver for quite some time and knows how to move). Things went smoothly before the flight and I gave my business card to Norvell (“So you say you’re amazing?”), who had checked my bags and gave me the good advice not to put my wallet in my shoe going through the x-ray machine. At the airport, water cost one nine nine.

Texas is a bad place

We had a layover in Dallas, and I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. I had always understood that Texas was a state to be hated, but I’m trying to not make judgements like that (kind of like how I try not to say I hate Joss Whedon, because, I mean, I don’t know what he’s like in real life). Anyway, let’s just say as soon as we began to even think about descending on this patch of dirt, Emily’s head started to feel like it would explode. The pressure in her sinuses built as we got closer to the Texas soil, where we would soon find that you can’t really buy sugarless gum that doesn’t have some kind of mint in it anymore. At least not at airports. Or at least not in Texas. Don’t go there (it was fun scoping out nerds in the airport, but this was a special occasion. I’m sure had it not been Comic Con, there would have been a whole lot more fancy ladies in heels and shawls walking around like they had somewhere to be. They didn’t, they were in Texas, after all).

San Diego

People behind the wheel in San Diego are insane. In this western city, you are allowed to decide whether you are in one lane or two, depending on if your car (or courtesy airport to hotel shuttle) can fit. Either way, we got to the hotel. As we checked in, neither Emily or I could have known that destiny was there too, handing out flyers for a burger joint just around the corner.

More reporting to come, including actual content about Comic Con (it was great, really great).

  • Thanks to everyone who bought the new pushups from MagCloud. 7 have sold so far, and only two people I know told me they bought it. Did you? It’d be cool if someone from Comic Con bought one, but who knows. Anyway, thanks!
  • I’ve got the next Spoilers update all lined up including some design tweaks to the site because Comic Con made me reconsider how people will come across the site. Also, I’ve learned one or two things that I had always wanted for the page since the last update, so I might as well bring it up to speed. Be sure to check it out on Thursday

I think that’s it for now.
